These 2020 FDA changes have been a long time in the making; my interest/concern started in the 1980’s. I remember vividly watching an episode of “60 Minutes” which aired December 16th, 1990 and discussed the potential health hazards of mercury-amalgam fillings. I thought that the use of mercury-amalgam fillings would end with this news segment. Now, 30 years later, the then anticipated changes are finally beginning to happen! The FDA now recommends that any high-risk populations avoid mercury-amalgam fillings. This is due in part to a number of courageous and hard working individuals and organizations. Special thanks to Charles G. Brown (Charlie), the President of World Alliance of Mercury-Free Dentistry and from Consumers for Dental Choice, as well as the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology.
